Yoga Styles

The school teaches the following yoga styles in this course

Hatha Yoga

Hatha Yoga teaches the practice of different asanas. It is the branch of Indian philosophy that directs not only towards building a sound body and mind but also towards achieving inner peace and happiness. Asanas or postures in Hatha Yoga strengthen different parts of body and develop the balance of the body.

Ashtanga Yoga

Ashtanga Yoga, the yoga of Eight Limbs was given by Yoga Maharshi Patanjali. In his philosophy, the eight spiritual practices can lead a person towards self-realization and ultimate happiness.
The eight limbs are: Yama (Moral Codes), Niyama (Self-Purification), Asana (Posture), Pranayama (Breath Control), Pratyahara (Sense Control), Dharana (Concentration), Dhyana (Meditative Absorption) and Samadhi (Absorption into Universe).

Vinyasa Yoga

Vinyasa denotes a flowing, dynamic form of yoga, connected to breath or pranayama in which yoga and mudra transitions are embodied as linkages within and between asana.Vinyasa is also employed as a noun to describe the sequence of poses that are performed between Adho Mukha Svanasanas or Downward Facing Dog as part of a Surya Namaskara or Sun Salutation sequence.

I think the text of the website of WPYS needs some updating after moving to the Tapovan resort. We were the first group in this building and the staff was still busy making it all according to standard. Some more cleaning needed to be done however. The room was nice and spacious an reasonably clean. No Ganges views here, but a nice view over himalayan mountains. The resort is within walkable distance (5 min) to Laksman Jhula bridge and surrounded by friendly street noices, mantra singing from near ashrams and temples, dogs barking etc. Many nice cafes around, where you can great vegan and organic food, life music and good wifi. During the course you clean your own room and bathroom. The food was simple but tastefull and nourishing. The course itself was very good with experienced and very gentle teachers, a good program and a clear syllabus and books. We missed out on anatomy lessons, but enough material provided to look into this ourselves. On top off this a free massage by Johnson or Karen and some excursions (sunrise in the mountains, waterfall visiting, acro yoga at the Ganges) on free Sundays. I loved the daily philosophy lessons and our meditation class in the morning at 6.00. These were outstanding because of the teachers Gaurav Agrawal and Sanjiv Kashyap. All in all I am realy happy I experienced this intense course, inlusive all difficult moments of continious sore muscles and fatigue. The resort is not public and only open to students of WPYS.

Booked on a weeklong retreat, I have but praise for all the teachers and classes but the set-up is questionable. I am still waiting for money to be reimbursed to my account from the owners after overpaying. For two nights I had to share a bed with a stranger, as there weren’t enough rooms, and there was obvious signs of poor planning. The weeklong retreat is just tagging along to those doing a 200-hr course – which is fine, if not intense. But this wasn’t advertised. In fact, the whole program was different from the one advertised. I can recommend this place, but I was say approach with caution.

This is indeed a nice school. The facilities are great and modern and there is a cozy and chilled cafe Nirvana to have a ginger lemon honey tee. The food is good and healthy (Indian – mostly rice/potato and curry sauce with vegetables). Most of the teachers are really good, passionated and funny. They arrange nice trips at Sunday’s and their welcome and graduation ceremonies are just amazing, I will never forget that.

I was missing more holistic knowledge of the body and the benefits of the poses, even though we had yoga therapy (really nice teacher). Also it was a bit messy with information and some people had to stay at other guest houses because there was not enough space in the building so remember to clear that out before arriving.

But in total a really authentic, intense, alternative and beautiful experience in beautiful Rishikesh

I had booked my yoga teacher training with world peace months in advance as well as my plane ticket half way around the world, full of eagerness and excitement to finally get certified to teach after 13 years of practice. Upon arriving we were asked for our cash before even getting to our “open air Ganga view” room with “hot” water and “electricity”. None of these amenities were provided..SEWAGE ALSO LEAKED FROM OUR TOILET the entire time we were there. We were lodged in a tiny dungeon of a room which was FREEZING as was the studio, you could see your breath in there.( see picture of the only window in my room which was covered with cardboard and leaked freezing cold air, other than that darkness) The anatomy teacher did not know names of muscles. They attempted to heat the studio wth a space heater which blew the electric for the whole building for three days as a storm approached. Construction the entire time we were in class (6am pranayama to drilling in concrete)… After three days our class of 12 was down to three. I asked for a refund. Hopefully you choose wisely and go ANYWHERE ELSE. BEWARE. not to mention Vishnu is working on his new ashram with gold guided ceilings and granite/marble flooring. He took me there to refund my money and it as clear where the funds of this scheming unethical “yogi” we’re going. A truly sad blemish on the face of yoga.
